What makes a PRE horse special?
The Pura Raza Española is one of the oldest and most recognisable horse breeds in the world. The breed originates on the Iberian Peninsula and has been bred for centuries for its elegance, striking leg action and natural collection. These qualities make it exceptionally well suited to classical dressage and haute école, but also to recreational riding and groundwork.
Besides their movement, PRE horses are known for their character. They are intelligent, people-oriented and willing to work. They learn quickly and are eager to cooperate with their rider. For riders looking for more than just a sport horse, and who value a genuine connection with their horse, a PRE is often a revelation.
Not every horse that looks Spanish or is called Andalusian is a genuine PRE. The only proof of authenticity is a valid ANCCE studbook passport, issued by the Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Caballos de Pura Raza Española, the official Spanish breeding institute. All horses at NL Stables are registered in this studbook and have a demonstrable pedigree from certified breeders.
The buying process
How buying a horse works
Buying a horse is a big decision. The process always starts with a proper orientation: what is your riding level, which discipline, how much experience do you have with horses, and what are your expectations for the years ahead? These questions largely determine which horse suits you.
After the orientation comes the viewing. At NL Stables you can try every horse in our current collection in Vinkeveen. No horse leaves us without you having felt the connection yourself. If a horse is a good match, the veterinary vetting follows: clinical and radiological, carried out by an independent vet. You receive the report before purchase, so you know exactly what you are buying.
The final step is the paperwork and transport. We arrange the ANCCE passport, the transfer of ownership and transport to your stable. You receive a horse that meets every requirement, with all documentation in order.

ANCCE (Asociación Nacional de Criadores de Caballos de Pura Raza Española) is the official Spanish studbook organisation for PRE horses. Only horses that meet the breed standard and descend from registered parents are entered in the studbook. An ANCCE passport is the proof that a horse is a genuine PRE with a demonstrable pedigree. Without this certificate, a horse cannot officially be called a Pura Raza Española.
What does a PRE horse cost at NL Stables?
Prices vary by age, training level and bloodlines. Young horses start around €8,000–€15,000. Trained sport horses are priced higher. Ask us, we are always transparent about pricing.
Can I take a horse on trial?
A trial period is possible by arrangement. We always discuss conditions personally so everything is clear for both parties.
Do you offer support after purchase?
Yes. We offer training, clinics and ground work sessions at NL Stables. After the purchase we are available if you have questions about your new horse.
Can I buy a horse from abroad?
Absolutely. We regularly sell to buyers in Belgium, Germany, and beyond. We arrange export documents and transport to your door.
How long does the buying process take?
For a horse from our current stock, you can sometimes complete the purchase within a week. If we search for a horse on your behalf in Spain, allow 2 to 6 months.
Is NL Stables a trading stable or horse dealer in the Netherlands?
NL Stables is a sport and trading stable specialising in the selection, vetting and sale of quality Spanish PRE horses. Unlike buying from a private seller, a horse from a trading stable has already been clinically and radiologically vetted, comes with official ANCCE papers, and includes personal guidance throughout the whole process. As a horse dealer in the Netherlands, we work directly with certified breeders in Spain, so you can be sure the horse has a demonstrable pedigree.
